City Costs Barometer 2015

Cities in Eastern Europe are shaping up to offer the best value this year, according to the seventh annual City Costs Barometer by Post Office Travel Money. Use our Travel Barometer to compare costs of popular holiday items across a range of destinations here.

The Post Office barometer monitors the price of 12 tourist items in 28 cities worldwide. Key findings include:

  • Prices are down in cities across Europe thanks to the strength of sterling

  • Baltic State Capitals - Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn are the cheapest, along with last year's best value city, Budapest

  • Prague remains the cheapest for meals and drinks - a cost you can't avoid on a city break

  • Athens - new to the City Costs Barometer in 2015 - is the cheapest city in Western Europe

City break holidaymakers can purchase euros over the counter at more than 10,000 Post Office branches, while over 4,000 branches offer US dollars and Turkish lira. The other currencies featuring in the City Costs Barometer are available on demand at over 1,600 branches, and up to 70 currencies can be pre-ordered at over 1,600 branches, and up to 70 currencies can be pre-ordered at over 11,500 Post Office branches, or online for next day branch or home delivery.
